XI’AN (CHINA): Chandni Chowk to China may have the Bollywood’s Sino connect in the title, but the Akshay Kumar-starrer didn’t quite catch the Chinese students’ imagination as Aamir Khan’s Phunsukh Wangdu in Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots (San Ge Sha Gua) has.

Lidlee, a first year student of English language at Shanxi Normal University, cannot recall Phunsukh real name. But, the film has left a big impression on her. “I got huge inspiration from the movie. I saw it a couple of times. The movie is very popular and the music is fantastic. Many of my friends in the university have watched it. I have heard it’s a big hit in India.” The songs of Raj Kumar Hirani’s blockbuster also struck a big chord with the Chinese.

Estimates suggest that over 1.3 lakh Chinese have watched the film since its Mandarin version was released here earlier this year. “I also watched the movie with my friends. It has everything – great music, motivating storyline and the actors are too good. The movie’s theme is touching,” said Ruth, another junior student at Shanxi University doing her major in English.

Though San Ge Sha Gua is popular, many of the students can’t recall the movie’s Hindi name. “I can’t recall the name. There are three young college students. One of them is extremely brilliant and the second one is a photographer,” Cheng Xing Xing, a student of German language atZhengzhou University, said.

It’s not just this movie that’s popular among students, Chinese youth are also a big fan of Mahatma Gandhi. Han Zhiqiang alias Alex, who is working with a research organization, said he had heard a lot about Gandhiji’s role in India’s Independence movement.

Chinese youth also want to come to India to pursue career in software technology. “One of my friends has gone to Bangalore for higher studies. India is a software giant. With many of us studying English, the GenNext can establish a greater relationship with our Indian counterparts,” said Yeqiujun, a university student.
